After weeks of practicing, the day finally came for Cavalcade! I signed Lindsey and Spencer up to participate in it. They grumbled most of the time, mostly because they actually had to practice the piano! There were many weeks of practicing and rehearsals. The kids had to memorize their songs, too. Cavalcade is a performance done by about 200 kids whose teachers are part of a music teacher association. It is held at a high school. On the auditorium stage, about 30 pianos are arranged. Each student is paired up with another student. They play their song with their partner at the same piano. It's like the Grand-daddy of all duets. Spencer and Lindsey were in the same group as each other, and played Racing Stallions and Reptile Rag. Their teacher was wise and didn't pair them with each other, though. It was fun to see all the students, ranging from just beginners to adult pros, participate. Spencer and Lindsey did a great job.
Jon Schmidt, Spencer, and Lindsey
Jon Schmidt was the special guest. He made a few appearances on stage in between piano changes and played away. He was amazing and is now one of my favorite pianists.
